Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1½ teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1½ cups granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons milk

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone baking mats.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, cream the softened butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Then add the vanilla extract and milk.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing on low speed just until combined.
  6. Roll the dough into 1-inch balls and place them 2 inches apart on prepared baking sheets. Flatten each ball slightly with the bottom of a glass dipped in sugar.
  7. Bake for 8-10 minutes until the edges just begin to turn golden.
  8. Let cookies cool on the baking sheet for 2 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack.

Notes

Use unsalted butter for better control of salt levels. Measure flour correctly to avoid dry cookies. Don't overbake; cookies should look slightly underdone when removed from the oven.
