Ingredients

  • 1 pound Ground Breakfast Sausage
  • 8 to 10 Large Eggs
  • 2 cups Whole Milk
  • 2 cups Cheddar Cheese
  • 6 cups Sturdy Bread Cubes
  • 1 teaspoon Dry Mustard
  • Salt and Black Pepper to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon Onion Powder

Method

  1. Prepare your baking dish by lightly greasing it with butter or non-stick spray.
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground sausage until browned, breaking it into small crumbles.
  3. Drain excess fat and set the sausage aside to cool slightly.
  4. Cut the bread into one-inch cubes and spread them evenly across the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
  5. Scatter the cooked sausage over the bread cubes, followed by a layer of shredded cheddar cheese.
  6. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, dry mustard, salt, pepper, and onion powder until smooth.
  7. Pour the egg mixture over the bread, sausage, and cheese in the baking dish.
  8. Cover the dish and let it sit in the refrigerator for at least two hours or overnight.
  9. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
  10. Bake for 45 to 55 minutes until the center is set and the top is golden brown.
  11. Let the dish rest for ten minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

Use day-old bread for better absorption. Do not overbake to avoid rubbery eggs. Let the casserole rest before cutting for neat slices.
