Ingredients

  • 1 pound flank steak, thinly sliced against the grai
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 4-5 cups broccoli florets
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 1/4 cup low sodium soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce (optional)
  • 1-2 tablespoons brown sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch (for thickening)
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • toasted sesame seeds (for garnish, optional)

Method

  1. Slice flank steak thinly against the grain and marinate with cornstarch, soy sauce, and sesame oil for at least 10 minutes.
  2. Steam or boil broccoli florets until crisp-tender, about 3-5 minutes, then drain.
  3. In a bowl, whisk together soy sauce, beef broth, oyster sauce, brown sugar, rice vinegar, sesame oil, and cornstarch until smooth.
  4. Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium-high heat and sear half of the marinated beef until browned, then remove.
  5. Sauté garlic and ginger in the skillet until fragrant, then return beef to the skillet.
  6. Pour in the sauce mixture and bring to a simmer, stirring until thickened.
  7. Add steamed broccoli and toss to coat, then serve immediately over rice or noodles.

Notes

Ensure to slice the beef thinly for tenderness and avoid overcrowding the pan while cooking.
