Ingredients
  

  • 8 to 10 black tea bags
  • 1 gallon filtered water (divided)
  • 1 to 1.5 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/8 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 fresh lemon (optional)
  • 1 sprig fresh mint (optional)

Method
 

  1. Bring four cups of filtered water to a rolling boil in a medium saucepan.
  2. Remove the pan from heat and add the black tea bags and baking soda.
  3. Let the tea bags steep for 8 to 10 minutes, then remove them without squeezing.
  4. Stir in the granulated sugar while the liquid is warm until dissolved.
  5. Pour the concentrated mixture into a large gallon-sized pitcher.
  6. Add the remaining twelve cups of cold filtered water and stir well.
  7. Refrigerate for at least four hours before serving over ice.

Notes

Avoid squeezing the tea bags to prevent bitterness. Use filtered water for the best flavor. Store in a glass pitcher and consume within three to five days.
