Method
- Prepare your ingredients by measuring everything and warming the milk slightly.
- Melt butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add flour and whisk constantly for 2-3 minutes.
- Remove from heat and gradually add milk while whisking to prevent lumps.
- Return to medium heat and whisk frequently until the sauce thickens, about 5-7 minutes.
- Season with salt, white pepper, and nutmeg before serving.
Notes
Use real butter for best results. Warm milk prevents lumps. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
