Ingredients

  • 2 pounds smoked sausage
  • 2 cups apple cider
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 3 medium apples
  • 1 large onio
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch (optional)

Method

  1. Slice the smoked sausage into 1-inch thick rounds and place them in the crockpot.
  2. Core and slice the apples into wedges and add them to the crockpot along with the sliced onion.
  3. In a medium bowl, whisk together the apple cider, brown sugar, Dijon mustard, apple cider vinegar, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  4. Pour the apple cider mixture over the sausage, apples, and onions, and gently stir to coat.
  5. Cover the crockpot and cook on low for 6-7 hours or high for 3-4 hours.
  6. About 30 minutes before serving, check the consistency and add cornstarch mixed with cold water if a thicker sauce is desired.
  7. Taste and adjust seasonings before serving hot.

Notes

Choose firm apples that hold their shape during cooking. For a healthier version, swap regular smoked sausage for turkey or chicken sausage. This dish stores well and flavors deepen overnight.
